Developing your Spirit using Essential Oils!

Essential Oils

What are Essential Oils? What can I use them for? Why do I need them? I get these questions all of the time! From beginners to more experienced users, essential oils are an amazing natural resource to have within your skillset when navigating through life. Essential oils are both exciting and promising when it comes to taking care of your own and your family’s health. Whether you’re applying them topically, enjoying the aromatic benefits through diffusing, or taking essential oils internally, the positive effects of essential oils are boundless.

But first! What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are drawn from natural sources and if you have ever enjoyed, as I have the fragrance of a floral rose then you have experienced the world of essential oils. In my case, I use these essential oils to balance chakras and help to improve my clients moods among other things.

How Do I Use Essential Oils?

Working as I do as a Spiritual Counsellor, my main focus in the use of Essential Oils is from a spiritual basis. When I use them, I do so to create a sense of balance within a space I am working in and to directly encourage my interaction with the Angels and the Spiritual world.

In my work, they help me to develop my connection with a client and the healing sessions we are undertaking. The role of the oils in these sessions helps to balance chakras and deepen meditations within a person.

In my use of oils with clients, I have found that their experience of a session is enhanced and encouraged. As such, I am convinced of the incredible healing powers of Essential oils in bridging a connection between the tangible and the intangible.

Essential Oils get used in other beautiful ways during my Spiritual Work. I use them also to:

  • uplift moods, grounding, cleaning auras and for purification and protections;
  • balancing the body, mind and spirit;
  • to elevate the spirit and enhance our awareness;
  • to help evoke psychic abilities and to promote deep healing in the present and the past;
  • deepen your bond with the elements; and
  • enhance our relationships with the plant and fairy world.

After a session, if a client wishes to continue on their journey towards further enlightenment, I can advise them on the most appropriate course of essential oils and their applications to alter a person’s mood and outlook on their lives.

Interesting facts about Essential Oils

Those of us who use Essential Oils regularly are quite well aware of their many interesting properties and elements. However, we rarely get to stop to consider the traditions and stories behind their uses in different cultures.

They have been mentioned in most of our sacred books and scrolls including the Bible, which for instance mentions Cedarwood some 40 times over its entirety. Even in Ancient Egypt, Egyptians studied herbs and used them in medicinal and religious ceremonies as early as 3500 B.C. We also know that they used Cinnamon in mummification! As we moved through to Medieval times, Black pepper was used as a currency in medieval Europe traded ounce for gold. One story told is that Attila the Hun, leader of the Hunnic Empire, asked for 3,000 pounds of pepper as part of his ransom for the city of Rome!

Incredibly even in modern-day Indonesia, Ylang Ylang blossoms continue to be used on the marriage beds of newlywed couples due to its aphrodisiac qualities! In other modern-day studies, essential oils such as Peppermint Oil have been subjected to scientific scrutiny, and a study by Dr. Alan Hirsch revealed that participants who regularly used peppermint oil consumed 23% fewer calories than those who did not. Peppermint Oil is so concentrated that a single drop is the equivalent of 28 cups of peppermint tea.

Finally Jasmine is known to us as the flower of existential essence as its aroma is with us only fleetingly once it has been picked. The complexity of this oil’s process and labor-intensive process makes Jasmine one of the essential oils to produce.

Learning the facts behind the Essential Oils we use is important as we learn how to use them more carefully and appreciate the time they take to produce.

More “serious” facts about Essential Oils 🙂

  • Essential oils are not oils. They do not contain the fatty acids that constitute what we would consider an actual oil. Valerie Gennari Cooksley, author of Aromatherapy: Soothing Remedies to Restore, Rejuvenate, and Heal defines them as “highly concentrated plant constituents possessing potent medicinal and cosmetic qualities.” However, I think Stephanie Tourles nailed it in Organic Body Care recipes when she said, “I consider essential oils the life force or the soul of the plant.”
  • Essential oils are minuscule in molecular size, which means they are absorbed well by the skin – making them perfect ingredients in personal care items intended to heal, soften, and nourish. However, they do not accumulate in the body over time – they offer up their healing properties and then pass on through.
  • Essential oils are wholly natural and cannot be patented; which means that you’ll never see them in a pharmaceutical drug. As such, you can expect that the vast majority of mainstream healthcare practitioners will never recommend oils as therapeutic alternatives to drugs. More importantly, because oils cannot be patented, drug companies will not waste money studying them. This limits our scientific knowledge of essential oils GREATLY, and the majority of what we know about them are things that have been passed down through thousands of years of personal use and experimentation.
  • Enormous amounts of plants are needed to produce essential oil. In fact, in the end, it takes 4000 pounds of Bulgarian roses to produce 1 pound of oil. Other plants like lavender only take 100 pounds of plant material to produce a pound of essential oil. Still, can you imagine how concentrated oils must be, in light of how many plants are used to produce them?
  • Also, they provide plants with protection against environmental pests and help to attract pollinators to increase the chances of cross-pollination. Essential Oils are volatile, meaning that they need to be treated in vast quantities in controlled conditions to obtain their essence. While Oils are offering natural benefits to their hosts and plants, they can be used in a variety of ways such as food prep, beauty treatment, and health care practices.

Warning: Most oils should never be used undiluted on the skin. Instead, they should be combined with “real” oils (called carrier oils), waxes, butter, alcohols, or other diluting measures. Because they’re so concentrated, if you don’t dilute, you may end up with an unfortunate reaction (and unhappy skin).
